With expansive building of roads, houses, factories, out of town shopping centres and intensification of our countryside to produce more food, wildlife is under huge pressure! Gardens have a vital role to play in British wildlife survival!

 

As main stockists for local Tetbury based Wildlife World products, wildlife is well cared for at Cleeve Nursery. Wildlife World use locally sourced FSC approved wood in making their vast range of wildlife nest boxes, homes and feeding stations.

 

We also carry an extensive range from Chapelwood and Gardman.

 

From February to June we have live TV coverage from a nearby heron's nest in our wildlife section [see under birds below]. Of course, you can buy nest box cameras from us too!

 

Some wildlife is unwelcome in our gardens so here is some advice concerning gardening with two of the most difficult!

 

Gardening with deer

 

Plants rabbits [usually] don't eat

 

 

 

 

Naturally, the number one on gardener's wildlife list, birds bring life right up to your window!

 

A very comprehensive range of feeds, feeders, tables, nest boxes [even for owls and sparrows] and id cards are always available.

Hedgehogs are greatly in need of our help!

 

Creating the right habitat is crucial to their survival and providing a home for hibernation can literally mean life and death to the hedgehog.

 

We supply suitable hedgehog homes for them to hibernate in. Or find out here how you can create your own shelter and more about what you can do to look after them.

 

Their appetite for slugs and other garden pests is phenomenal so they will certainly re-pay the favour if you encourage them!

 

Remember to always check bonfires before lighting them as hedgehogs often curl up inside them.

Love them or loathe them, bats are fascinating creatures and a friend to gardeners. We are fortunate in having at least 3 species that feed around the nursery at dusk and we welcome them as they hoover up insects.

Ribbet, ribbet!

Frogs and toads are another important gardener's friend since they consume vast amounts of slugs and other important garden pests.

 

A pond will encourage frogs to adopt your garden and breed, whereas both will be happy to hide in a cool damp Wildlife World Frogitat.

 

 

 

Bees need all the help that gardeners can give them! Reports show that they are in serious decline and that we should not under-estimate the impact that this could have on our food production.

 

Wildlife World have come up with a range of nest boxes and hives for solitary, hive and bumblebees. If you don't fancy keeping bees yourself, you can do a lot to encourage wild solitary and bumblebees by providing hibernating boxes, feeding stations and gardening in an environmentally sensitive way. After all, these wild bees are exceptionally good pollinators and will 'work' flowers when honey bees find it too cold to be out.

Butterflies and moths will be enticed into your gardens by the plants that you grow.

 

But there are times when you can give them a real boost by providing butterfly food from a Wildlife World feed station. These feed stations also attract moths, which are in as much a decline as our butterfly population.
