Toby’s Garden Festival at Forde Abbey Sept 16/17th

Down in south Somerset and almost into Dorset, Toby Buckland’s latest Garden Festival is about to happen!

It’s on Sat 16th and Sun 17th of September.

The venue is the lovely Forde Abbey House and Gardens.

This refreshingly new/old approach to garden shows is an event full of informality, good food and drink, dancing, music and everything that makes a great day out!

Celebrity speakers include Christine Walkden, Charlie Dimmock, Jim Buttress and of course Toby Buckland himself!

Our own Alan Down will be giving a demonstration of layered planting of spring flowering bulbs in containers each day. He will also join Christine, Charlie and Jim on the experts Q & A panel both days.

Besides lots of plants to buy you could learn to scythe like Poldark, learn how to make soap, how to grow wildflowers, see crafts being made, have a guided tree walk -they have a great collection- or have a tour of the walled garden with the head gardener.

Read lots more info from the organisers of this event here.

Fancy going? Well you can buy advance tickets here.

The results are in! ——-The winners of the 6 pairs of tickets in our free Box Tree Cafe draw are- Lisa Jarman, Chris Elliott, Andrew Payne, Mrs C Kirkley, Veronica Mitchell and Alica Maltby.

BBC Celebratory Garden in Wiltshire!

celebratory community garden, joe swift, bbc, potterne, garden

We’re working with BBC and others to come up with a lasting commemorative garden project.

2017 marks the anniversaries of several key programmes and departments for the BBC and several of these are Bristol based.

BBC Gardeners World celebrates 50 years since the very first broadcast – was that with Percy Thrower?

BBC Points West celebrates 60 years of local news in 2017.

We are creating a community garden to mark the anniversaries of both programmes and leave a legacy that benefits Potterne village in Wiltshire.

We’ll post more here as this project gets underway, so be sure to check back to this page periodically.

Great Plantsman Roy Lancaster Fagus Garden Club Talk

Roy Lancaster will talk about his life in plants on August 21st at 8pm.
The talk will be in the Methodist Hall, Silver Street, Nailsea and is a ticket only event.
Roy is a personal friend of Cleeve’s owners Felicity and Alan Down and officially reopened the business here at Cleeve by planting a paperbark maple and ginkgo in 1984. You can see those two [now large!] trees to this day. We hope to reunite Roy with the trees on the morning after his talk so if you can’t get to the talk you may see him at the nursery on the Tuesday morning.
Roy is an excellent speaker with many interesting and entertaining stories to tell.

Chelsea Fringe in Bristol 2015

Our planted pickup truck for encouraging pollinating insects is looking great here at Cleeve Nursery!

We’ve changed the original planting since 2015 to reflect seasonal plants that will encourage bees, bumblebees and other pollinating insects and the planted pickup truck is looking great!
There is a list of bee friendly plants that you can grow here.

Chelsea Fringe in Bristol 2016

Chelsea Fringe, Chelsea, watering can,Cleeve

Last  year it was the planted pickup truck for pollinating insects, the previous year pot grown edible plants in a parking space on Park Street and this year it involves Bristol Airport!
Our giant watering can [probably the biggest in the world] was at Bristol Airport and filled it with tropical indoor plants!
Watch a short video of us setting the can up there.
Chelsea Fringe was from May 21st to June 12th and our can was there until June 14th.
Of course, you can still see the planted pickup truck at Cleeve Nursery now.
