Beetroot

 

beetrootThe beetroot (also known as beet) is a common root vegetable in the UK and has a long history of cultivation stretching back to the second millennium BC. The plant was probably domesticated somewhere along the Mediterranean and today beetroot is one of the original ‘super foods’. Packed full of nutrients and used in a variety of recipes.

Carrots

 

carrot-autumnThe most common of root vegetables has to be the humble carrot and its wild ancestors are likely to have come from Afghanistan. The first mention of the carrot root (the tubalur part we eat) is in the 1st century. Oddly enough, the first carrots were no particularly orange!

Out of all the root vegetables carrot has a surprisingly wide variety of colours including orange, purple, red, white, or yellow. But it’s more for that crunchy fabulous taste that we grow them!
