Easter Chicks Hatching!

Easter, chick, cleeve nursery

Easter hen chicks will again be hatching throughout Easter Weekend!

This entirely free event is always popular with all age groups. Stand and watch a chick peck its way out of an egg in a glass topped incubator. Then see that chick recover, fluff up to a lovely yellow and start to feed under a heat lamp.

We run this popular free event throughout every Easter Weekend so from around midday on Good Friday to the end of Easter Monday there should be something to see!

Remember that unlike large garden centres and because we grow a high percentage of our own plants, we will be open 10-5 pm on Easter Sunday. We’re open10-5 on Friday and Monday too.

Not been to us before? Take a tour.

We’re working with BBC and others to come up with a lasting commemorative garden project.

2017 marks the anniversaries of several key programmes and departments for the BBC and several of these are Bristol based.

BBC Gardeners World celebrates 50 years since the very first broadcast – was that with Percy Thrower?

BBC Points West celebrates 60 years of local news in 2017.

The plan is to create a project marking the anniversaries of both programmes in Bristol and to leave a legacy that benefits one of Bristol’s communities.

We’ll post more here as this project gets underway, so be sure to check back to this page periodically.
The BBC Natural History department and Antiques Roadshow also have big anniversaries this year!

Garden Re-Leaf Day

Ahelleborefloat

Garden Re-Leaf day this year was March 17th [St Patrick’s Day] and we had a very special event this year!

Alan Down’s private collection and stock plant collection of Hellebores was on view to a limited few!

Ticket sales and a tombola raised a magnificent £433!

All proceeds have gone to Greenfingers Charity to build more gardens in Children’s Hospice throughout Britain.

Chelsea Fringe in Bristol 2016

Our planted pickup truck for encouraging pollinating insects is looking great here at Cleeve Nursery!

We’ve changed the planting a bit to reflect seasonal plants that will encourage bees, bumblebees and other pollinating insects and the planted pickup truck is looking great!
There is a list of bee friendly plants that you can grow here.

Chelsea Fringe in Bristol 2016

Chelsea Fringe, Chelsea, watering can,Cleeve

Last  year it was the planted pickup truck for pollinating insects, the previous year pot grown edible plants in a parking space on Park Street and this year it involves Bristol Airport!
Our giant watering can [probably the biggest in the world] was at Bristol Airport and filled it with tropical indoor plants!
Watch a short video of us setting the can up there.
Chelsea Fringe was from May 21st to June 12th and our can was there until June 14th.
Of course, you can still see the planted pickup truck at Cleeve Nursery now.

BBC1 ‘People Power’ series

BBC1, Hairy Biker, Dave Meyers, Mark Millar, Felicity Down
We recently helped transform a couple of community areas in Easton, Bristol for a new BBC1 TV series.
We supplied plants, materials, knowledge and volunteers to tidy up and make safe a section of the fantastic adventure playground that is in Easton.
But the main project was at the Baggator Youth Centre, also in Easton, where we helped Incredible Edible Bristol and others totally transform a jungle area into a garden filled with edible plants.

The transformation of these areas was shown every day on BBC1 at 9.15am during the week of Dec 12th.

Felicity, Alan and their daughter Jo worked with Dave Meyers [aka ‘Hairy Biker’],  Mark Millar and Nicki Chapman on this project.

Some of the filming took place with Alan at Cleeve Nursery.
